What is the Darlay Trust Award Scheme?

The Darlay Trust has been set up with a generous legacy left by Mr Maurice Darlay to St John the Baptist Church Treswell, for the benefit of the church and villagers of Treswell.

Mr Darlay was a local lad who kept in close contact with Treswell village through his mum who lived at No 4 Cottam Road in Treswell. She was a teacher at Rampton Primary School. He married a girl from Laneham at St Peter’s Church and lived in Sutton on Trent.

The Darlay Trust Award Scheme is a fund that makes financial awards for a wide range of purposes to eligible applications from individuals or groups.

Application Eligibility

Eligibility of applicant

• Anyone of any age who lives within the parish of Treswell
• Anyone who is a habitual worshipper at St John the Baptist Church, Treswell
• Any club or activity group based in Treswell and open to Treswell residents (this award would be for the club or group, not for an individual)

An eligible application for an award should be for one of the following:

• To provide assistance for those in need due to age, disability, ill health, poverty or other disadvantage
• Educational development
• Advancement of Christian religion
• To enhance village community

Examples of these could include -

• Health welfare – equipment to help health needs in a home setting/ assistance with hospital travel
• Education – books / setting up for university / retraining after redundancy
• Christian religion – course fees / literature
• Village community – setting up a club for Treswell residents / equipment used by a club

How and When to Apply

Applications to the Trust will be considered twice a year.
Applications to be received by 31st March and 30th September and will be considered within 2 months, by 31st May and 30th November.

For urgent applications that cannot wait for usual consideration, please reach out to the Trustees, emergency funds can be made available.
